The sudden spurt in the cases of Corona has scared everyone. In view of this, the government has planned a nationwide drill in hospitals on 10 and 11 April to check the preparedness of covid.

Once again the increasing cases of covid-19 in India have created fear in the minds of the people. Seeing the seriousness of the epidemic, the government has made a plan to take stock of the preparations of the hospitals. The Health Ministry said that a nationwide mock drill would be conducted on 10 and 11 April. Both public and private facilities are expected to participate in it. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will inspect the mock drill at AIIMS, Jhajjar on 10 April.

In a recent review meeting, Mandaviya urged state health ministers to visit hospitals and oversee mock drills. He also advised to review the preparedness with the district administration and health officials.
On Sunday, 699 new cases of Kovid-19 were reported in Delhi and the infection rate was 21.15 percent. This information has been received from the data shared by the Health Department of Delhi Government. The number of corona virus infected in Delhi has increased to 20,14,637, while the death toll has increased to 26,540. On the other hand, if we talk about the whole country, 5 thousand 357 new corona cases were registered on Sunday. The total number of active cases of corona in the country has increased to 32 thousand 814. The positivity rate is 3.39 percent.

COVID Mock Drill: Key Updates

In a meeting held virtually with state health ministers, principals and additional chief secretaries, Mandaviya stressed on the need to identify emergency hotspots by monitoring cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI). was emphasised.

Officials have also been asked to expedite testing and vaccination and ensure preparedness of hospital infrastructure.
Apart from scaling up genome sequencing and whole genome sequencing of positive samples, he stressed on creating awareness about following Covid-appropriate behaviour.
During the meeting, the States and Union Territories were informed that the World Health Organization (WHO) is currently closely monitoring the XBB.1.5 variant of Corona.
The government has also informed the states and union territories that six more variants are under surveillance (BQ.1, BA.2.75, CH.1.1, XBB, XBF and XBB
It was highlighted that while Omicron and its sub-lineages remain the dominant variant, most of the assigned variants have little or no significant transmissibility, disease severity or immune defence.

The spread of XBB.1.16 increased from 21.6 percent in February to 35.8 percent in March. However, no evidence of increased hospitalization or mortality has been reported. During the meeting, it was observed that the average tests per million in 23 states and union territories were less than the national average.

Mandaviya had said that despite new variants, the five-fold strategy of 'test-track-treat-vaccinate and follow Covid-appropriate behaviour' remains the time-tested strategy for Covid management.

States and Union Territories were also requested to rapidly increase the rate of testing from 100 tests per million as of the week ending April 7. He was further advised to increase the share of RT-PCR in tests.
