Serious Allegations of Sexual Assault and Harassment Surface Against Former MLA and Eight Others in Bāḍmīr
In a startling development, a case involving accusations of sexual assault and harassment has emerged against nine individuals, including former MLA Mevararam Jain, in Bārmer. The allegations span a series of grave offenses, with the accused facing charges under the POCSO Act, filed by a woman at the Rajiv Gandhi Nagar police station.
The complainant has bravely stepped forward, citing a disturbing sequence of events involving the accused. Among the accused are RPS Anand Rajpurohit, Kotwali police officer Gangaram Khawa, SI Dawood Khan, Ramswaroop Acharya, Deputy Chairman Suratan Singh, head Giridhar Singh Sodha, Praveen Sethiya, and Gopal Singh Rajpurohit.
The woman alleges a series of heinous acts, claiming that not only was she subjected to sexual assault, but her friend was also victimized. Shockingly, inappropriate behavior was exhibited in the presence of her daughter, and the minor was reportedly harassed in the absence of her mother. Moreover, the accused are accused of obstructing the filing of cases against police personnel and resorting to threats against the woman.
According to the Rajiv Gandhi Nagar police officer Shaqeel Ahmad, the incident traces back to an encounter on a bus in 2021. The complainant, on her way to Pachpadra for her father’s treatment, encountered one of the accused, Ramswaroop, who allegedly drugged and assaulted her in a hotel. The distressing ordeal continued as the accused recorded videos during the assault, subsequently using them to blackmail and perpetrate further assaults, threatening to make the videos public.
The situation escalated when the former MLA was also allegedly assaulted by the accused when she sought assistance due to defamation arising from the incidents. Subsequently, pressure was exerted on the complainant to involve other women, further complicating the distressing circumstances.
Attempts to seek legal recourse were met with resistance when the complainant tried to register a case at the Kotwali police station, where she claims to have faced harassment instead of receiving the necessary support. Shockingly, inappropriate behavior was also reported against officers at the station, along with alleged harassment by associates of the former MLA.
The police have now taken cognizance of the matter and initiated an investigation into the allegations made by the woman, promising a thorough and unbiased inquiry into these deeply concerning accusations.
