“On December 13, 2023, at Aaykar Bhawan’s auditorium in Prayagraj, Chief Income Tax Commissioner Dr. Shikha Darbari engaged directly with esteemed taxpayers of Prayagraj, Trade Board officials, Chartered Accountants, and members of the Income Tax Bar Association. The deadline for the third installment of advance tax for the financial year 2023-24 is December 15, 2023. Distinguished taxpayers, trade association officials, chartered accountants, and advocates from Allahabad were invited to the Income Tax Auditorium to deliberate on this matter. Chief Income Tax Commissioner Dr. Shikha Darbari initiated the program by lighting the lamp.
Dr. Shikha Darbari underscored the vital role taxpayers play in nation-building, likening the need for funds in running a family to the necessity of finances for the country. She highlighted that a significant portion of the funds for various projects comes from income tax, collected based on taxpayers’ self-declared incomes for the financial year. While taxpayers have the liberty to declare their income, advancements in technology leave no information hidden from the department. Hence, taxpayers are urged to accurately report their income, deposit advance tax as per regulations, and avoid hefty interest charges and unnecessary investigations.
Expressing concern about the stagnant business growth or the absence of companies in Allahabad, the Chief Income Tax Commissioner emphasized the Board of Trade’s responsibility to bolster industrial growth for Allahabad’s advancement. Additionally, Additional Income Tax Commissioner Shiv Kumar Rai shared statistics indicating 534 taxpayers deposited advance tax of Rs. ten lakh or more, 99 taxpayers deposited Rs. fifty lakh or more, and 39 taxpayers deposited Rs. one crore or more in the recent past in the Allahabad region. Rai anticipated these numbers to rise further based on the current trend, but also stressed the importance of educating individuals who should be paying taxes but aren’t, emphasizing the pivotal role taxes play in national development.
