In a momentous event on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first greenfield airport in the state of Gujarat, situated near Rajkot city. The airport project, built at a cost of Rs 1,405 crore, marks a significant milestone in the development of the region’s aviation infrastructure.
The new international airport, located in Hirasar village approximately 30 kilometers from Rajkot, spans an impressive area of 1,025.50 hectares (2,534 acres). The Airports Authority of India has meticulously overseen the construction of the airport, utilizing a land area of 1,500 acres.
Among its impressive features, the airport boasts a 3,040-meter-long (3.04 km) and 45-meter-wide runway, providing ample space for the parking of up to 14 aircraft simultaneously. This state-of-the-art facility is equipped to handle both domestic and international flights, making it a crucial hub for regional and international connectivity.
The journey towards this achievement began in October 2017 when Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone during the ground-breaking ceremony held at the Hirasar village near Rajkot city. Over the years, meticulous planning, execution, and dedication have culminated in the realization of this ambitious project.
Following the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi took a comprehensive tour of the airport premises, where he familiarized himself with the technical aspects of the facility, engaging with officials involved in its development.
This momentous occasion coincides with Prime Minister Modi’s two-day visit to Gujarat, during which he is expected to address a gathering at the Race Course ground in Rajkot city. The new airport is anticipated to play a crucial role in boosting the economic growth of the region, attracting investments, promoting tourism, and enhancing trade opportunities.
With its modern infrastructure and strategic location, the newly inaugurated international airport near Rajkot city is set to serve as a gateway to the vibrant state of Gujarat, furthering the nation’s vision of an efficient and thriving aviation sector.
