Four terrorists related to Al Qaeda convicted in the case of conspiracy, hearing on sentence will be held on February 14

Four Al-Qaeda terrorists were convicted by a special court at Patiala House for conspiring to carry out terror activities across the country and recruiting members for the terror group. Special Judge Sanjay Khangwal convicted Maulana Mohd Abdul Rehman Qasmi, Mohd Asif, Zafar Masood and Abdul Sami under sections 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act) and 18-B (recruitment of persons for terrorist act) of UAPA.

The court noted that the prosecution has fully proved the provisions of UAPA against all the convicts. The court will hear arguments on quantum of sentence for all on February 14. At the same time, accepting the arguments of advocates MS Khan and Kausar Khan, the court acquitted two suspected operatives Syed Mohammad Zeeshan Ali and Sabeel Ahmed.

The court said the prosecution could not prove its case against the two. The court directed to release both of them on a personal bond of ten thousand rupees each.

Charges were framed against the accused in the case in the year 2017. However, another accused Syed Anjar Shah was acquitted. Delhi Police had claimed that Rehman used to run a madrassa in Uttar Pradesh and many students are enrolled there.

It also claimed that Masood was trying to attract youth to Al-Qaeda by propagating its terrorist agenda. While Asif was arrested from Seelampur in northeast Delhi, Rehman was arrested from Jagatpur area of Cuttack in Odisha. Other co-accused were also trying to radicalize the youth.
